Training and Capacity building

All programs entail building the capacity of the staff carrying out the programs, the community and other stakeholders. In depth training is carried out on specific program components. RDI has trained more than 4500 staff both at managerial and at field levels like program officers, coordinator, supervisors, health volunteers etc.

Various subjects for whom trainings are undertaken are:

RCH (Reproductive & Child Health) :-
Training includes capacity building at various levels on all the components of RCH services including safe motherhood, child health, adolescent health, RTI/STI & common diseases and family planning. Till date training for same has been provided to Medical Officers, Auxillary Nurse Midwives (ANM), Community Development Program Officers and Supervisors, Community members (Panchayati Raj Members), health volunteers as well as NGO's Representatives.

RTI/STD/HIV/AIDS: -
Training is provided on what is HIV/AIDS, mode of spread and prevention, introduction of NACO, roles & responsibilities of health workers and community leaders towards those who are suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Adolescent Health :-
Training includes family life education, reproductive health, general health and career development. Till date this training program has catered to over one million adolescent t
hrough trained government and non governmental functionaries as well as adolescent peer educators.

Safe Motherhood Practices :-
It's a detailed training program where birth attendants are trained on ante natal, natal and postnatal care, safe delivery at home, following 5 cleans, care of new born and family planning especially in regard with spacing methods. Practical demonstrations on conduction of normal vaginal deliveries are also provided.
With more than 80% of deliveries being conducted at home, till date more than 1000 women have been trained from the districts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehra Dun, Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, Pitthoragarh & Champawat.

First Aid :-
This provides information on objectives & principles of first aid, management of a wounded or injured person before reaching for medical services. Eg. Road accident, burns, bleeding, snake bite, poisoning cases etc.

Behavior Change Communication (BCC):-
Various methods are used for behavioral change communication in the community. Key among them being health fairs, puppet shows, street plays, video shows, health talks, posters, radio program as well as use of kits and games. Traditional and innovative methods are used for presenting information in the local language that takes into account the cultural background and needs of the people regardless of their level of literacy.

RDI has developed various innovative tools and kits in this regard.
