The nurses play a vital role in serving the sick in the hospital as well as in the community settings. Keeping this in mind, the professional training programs for nurses at HIHT emphasize the highest standards in patient care and dedicated service. Apart from imparting instruction in science, humanities and nursing care, the students are sensitized to the basics of alternate systems of medicine including yoga therapy. The nursing students are also provided hands-on training in the community, especially in the villages.

About Us

The Himalayan College of Nursing was established in 2006 by upgrading the School of Nursing, which was conducting Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) of 3 year duration since 1996. The College has started B. Sc. Nursing programme of 4-year duration and continues to run the DGNM course, which is of 3 ½ years duration now. Both these courses are approved by the professional regulatory body, the Indian Nursing Council, as well as by the examining bodies, viz. the State Medical Faculty and the Garhwal University. Optimal facilities to explore, experiment and achieve high professional skills are available for gaining knowledge and skills, which are required to provide quality health care.

Faculty Facilities & Resources

The College faculty comprises a creative team working together to enhance their expertise in teaching modalities that meet international standards. Continuing education is strongly encouraged among faculty members and adequate support is provided for the same

The educational resources of the college include five nursing labs, a computer lab, lecture theatres fully equipped with media projection and sound system facilities, and a big library.
The major aim of the HCON is to have innovative approaches and evolve a new pattern of nursing education and nursing practice, integrating spiritual aspects of life with modern technology.

The College makes conscious efforts to imbibe the mission statement of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust,
viz. "Love, Serve and Remember".

The College lays strong emphasis on harmonious development of students by involving them in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. It emphasizes that nursing as a profession has both an independent as well as an inter-dependent team role with the physician and other health providers in serving the individual and the community.

The formation of Himalayan College of Nursing is a major step in the establishment of a Centre for Nursing Excellence in the hill State of Uttarakhand.

Future Plans

The College plans to commence regular Post-basic B. Sc and M. Sc in Nursing programmes, and short term continuing nursing education courses, in the near future.
