Republic Day at HIHT

January 26, 2010

Excerpted from Vice Chancellor’s Address:

I extend my warm wishes to all present here on the occasion of Republic Day. Friends, our HIHT family has grown very large. Let us decide today, that every month a small amount ranging from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50 from everyone’s salary, be kept in a separate fund to meet the requirement of our fellow workers who come from  poor backgrounds .

To upgrade the facilities in our campus, the senior management has decided to install a Hospital Management System and a University Management System for the hospital and University respectively. Both doctors and patients will be benefited. To provide better internet facility for the campus, we have decided to install a WiFi system covering the entire campus. We have also placed an order for a high speed 10 mbps broad band connection with Tata Indicom. Within the next 6 - 8 months these facilities should be fully functional.

I have a boss—Shri Swami Rama. He never allows me to rest. On the evening of 18th January, I was having a cup of tea with Dr. Prakash Keshaviah. I was telling him that I am wasting my time in the VC office handling all this paperwork. We need to find some other person for this job. If we are to take this Institute to greater heights, I need to concentrate on much bigger issues. That same evening, there was news in the media about deemed or doomed universities. Our name appears in the C category.

We were granted university status after 12 years of our existence. Teams from the University Grants Commission have visited our University twice to inspect the infrastructure and facilities available at our place. They have not pointed out any deficiencies. We need answers to these questions: How are we considered to be a C-grade university? What parameters did the Tondon Committee adopt to put us in the C category? We will fight it out in the court of law!

Friends, this place is the karmbhumi of Shri Swami Rama who worked day and night selflessly for the benefit of society. I am convinced that nothing can go wrong here. Let us all join hands together and fight this battle, and I assure you 99% that we will win. On this occasion I would like to thank each one of you for your hard work and contributions to take this Institute to greater heights.Thank you.

Shri Vijay Dhasmana, Vice Chancellor, HIHT U
