Hospital Infection Control Committee

To upgrade the management of HIV/AIDS patients at HIHT an HIV team was formulated under Hospital Infection Control Committee. The HIV team has formulated a HIV policy and conducted the training of 60 Doctors, 40 Nursing Staff/Faculty, 15 Laboratory technicians & 50 housekeepers on various aspects of HIV/AIDS in the month of December 2007 and January 2008. The activity was coordinated by Dr. Pratima Gupta, Professor and Head Microbiology.

RDI Update

Education

1.Two new children, Priya Agarwal from Vikasnagar, and Shubham from Shahpur, received scholarship and five new scholars received Hygiene Kit.

2.In the winter vacation Spanish scholarship students participated in a mural painting workshop. The children were asked to draw their dreams and then they put them together to create a common dream "Mural". These classes were arranged in two batches. First batch from 18 Dec to 22 Dec, 2007 and second batch 26 Dec to 5 Jan 2008. 30 children participated all together.

3.The students were taken for one day education trip to Wadia Institute, Solar Park and Buddha temple.

4.Workshops on ‘Human Values’ conducted in RDI with a vision to create a community space, where children and adolescents can receive education in Human Values and support with service and basic requirements, to grow in the noble habits and ideals of equality, equanimity, unconditional/selfless love, and the recognition of unity to diversity.

o Ist Workshop: 29th December 2007. Theme: Truth

o 2nd Workshop: 14th January 2008; theme: Honesty

5. A 3-days workshop on ‘Empowerment’, conducted in VRC Thano from 17th Jan 08 to 21st Jan 08, with an objective to actively promote and support, self analysis and decision making, to ensure self confidence and generate empowerment in adolescents.

Trainings:

1. From, November 2007 till January 2008, trainings of six batches were conducted on the issues of First Aid, Safe Motherhood, Drudgery Effect on Health and Adolescent’s Health. The participants were from the Himalaya Trust, Organic Board, Mahila Bhuwaneshwari Ashram etc. and a total of 119 village volunteers were benefited through these training.

National Program for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD)

1. III level training conducted for Asha, AWW & TBA in three districts Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal and Haridwar.

o December 2007 – 32 batches, total 1655 participants trained

o January 2008 – 20 batches, total 1055 participants trained

2. IV Level Training conducted for School Teachers in three districts Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal.

o Jan 2008 – 2 batches, total 91 participants trained.

Innovative Methods of Learning and Teaching in Nursing Education

A three day workshop on Strengthening of Learning and Teaching Skills - "Innovative Methods of Learning Teaching in Nursing Education" was organized by Himalayan College of Nursing from January 29 to 31, 08. About 30 participants including teachers, ward supervisors and staff nurses from the HIHT participated in this workshop.

Dr. B. V. Adkoli and Mr. Yogesh Kumar, both from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Miss K. K. Gulani, Ex-Reader, University of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, were the Experts and Resource persons for this workshop. The local Resource Persons were, Dr. Kathy McKeehan, Mrs. P. Barua, Mrs. N. Nagpal, Dr. S. Dos, Dr. Anita Sharma and Dr. Vinita Kalra.

During the three days the participants were provided with theoretical material on Principles of Adult Learning, Organizing and Planning Learning Activities, Assessment and Evaluation, Methods of Teaching, Motivation and Innovative Approaches and Micro Teaching. Each participant had to conduct a Micro Teaching session to gain practical experience in planning and organizing Teaching – Learning Activities.
